The Academic Board of the University of Ghana has approved a number of new courses at the master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) levels.

They include the Executive Master of Science in Fisheries Administration and Management, PhD in Health Physics and Radiation and a functional law course for undergraduate students

Also approved for revisions are the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor of Science and Master of Philosophy in Nursing and Midwifery programmes.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university in charge of Research, Innovation and Development, Professor Francis Dodoo, made this known when he delivered an address on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, at the 2018 congregation of graduate students last Saturday.

Six hundred and twenty-eight students from the College of Humanities graduated from various fields, including PhD in Development Studies, Master of Philosophy in Accounting, Executive Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Development Finance.

A total of 3,184 students had earlier graduated at the four colleges of the university – the College of Health Sciences (365); the College of Humanities (1,661); the College of Education (35) and the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (1,124).

Cyclical review

Prof. Dodoo said the university recently underwent a statutory cyclical review by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) on governance, institutional development, internationalisation, growth, research and grants, community service, academic matters, among others.

He expressed the commitment of the university management to implement the recommendations from the review which would enable it to improve teaching and learning and research.

Project

Prof. Dodoo indicated that the university and its consortium of five African partners had been awarded 1.3 million euros from the European Commission within the framework of the EU-Intra Africa Mobility Programme to implement a project.

The five-year project, known as Harmonisation of Entrepreneurship Education for Sustainable Development in Africa, seeks to facilitate academic mobility to enhance individual and institutional capacities in entrepreneurship across thematic disciplines in Africa.

“The programme will offer scholarships for master’s and PhD students as capacity building for academic and administrative staff of the partner universities,” Prof. Dodoo stated.

Guest speaker

The Guest Speaker, Mr Franklin Sowa, who is the Director of Marketing and Sales of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), urged the graduates to give their best shot at every opportunity given them.

“Good work and high professionalism in executing your current task could be the key to unlock the next breakthrough for you,” Mr Sowa stated.

He further charged the graduates to persevere, be trustworthy, be focussed, have a positive mental attitude, dare to be different and be accountable and responsible.

In her valedictory message, Ms Golda Anambane, who was adjudged the best student, urged her mates to join the call to support entrepreneurship as it had been found as the key to the economic progress of nations.
